Arutam Journey – Into the Heart of the Amazon

An immersive, responsible, and intercultural travel experience with the Shuar Maikiuants community, living deep within a preserved region of the Condor Mountain Range in Ecuador.

Arutam represents the spiritual force present in nature—especially within waterfalls—symbolizing the connection between all living beings. For the Shuar people, it is a sacred place for introspection and connection with life itself.

This is not a typical tourist trip—it is a shared human experience.

While living in a still-preserved territory, the Shuar Maikiuants are increasingly facing the pressures of modern expansion. The Ecuadorian government has granted exploration and extraction rights to mining industries in their region.

As dedicated protectors of their land, the Maikiuants actively defend this natural treasure that forms the foundation of their culture and identity.

Through intercultural exchange, this journey creates an opportunity to bridge modern life and ancestral knowledge. It also supports younger generations in embracing their identity with pride while fostering economic independence.

Today, to support land preservation, autonomous education, and sustainable economic independence beyond government projects, we offer this journey—
where you become an active participant.

We take care of the full organization of the trip.

For flexibility, participants are responsible for booking their own flights and travel insurance.

However, we are available to guide and support you in this process.

This journey is a true adventure. Participants should enjoy hiking and be open to stepping outside their comfort zone.

Your experience will be guided by Julien Defourny (French-speaking guide), sometimes accompanied by Elodie Pironet, ensuring your well-being throughout the trip.

We will also organize post-trip gatherings for participants.

2026 Dates: September 9 – September 30 (Open to all participants)
